Meeting Data Protection compliance with secure document shredding...
Due to the sensitive nature of much of the firm’s paper waste, it’s destroyed on site in one of Datashred’s mobile shredding trucks, meaning the documents never leave the site un-shredded. Operating from offices in Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester, Ward Hadaway has a substantial client base of regional, national and international clients from both the private and public sectors. Since starting the contract with Restore Datashred in 2009, the firm has been impressed with the shredding services provided.
Norma Tullock, head of facilities at Ward Hadaway says, “We initially chose PHS Datashred because of their competitive pricing and recycling capabilities. They not only collect and dispose of our confidential paper waste, but also our non-confidential paper, cans, bottles, cups, cardboard and WEEE.”
Security and sustainability for document disposal
As well as offering an environmentally responsible disposal route for waste paper, Datashred also demonstrates a high level of security for data protection. Shredding all confidential paper waste on site enhances Ward Hadaway’s compliance with the Data Protection Act, and means that the firm is not open to significant fines from the Information Commissioner’s Office, which can be up to £500,000.
Each of the 20 Nexus 140 confidential waste bins at their Newcastle site are locked, with a slim opening for the user to place the waste paper. The bins at this site, and at their Leeds office, are emptied once a week, with recycling collected from Newcastle twice weekly.
Richard Tucker, Datashred’s depot manager in Durham, said “Ward Hadaway approached us to look at managing their confidential waste disposal, as well as their office recycling. They wanted a secure and efficient solution. We offered a cost effective service, and following a visit by their facilities team to our local destruction centre in Durham, we were delighted to have Ward Hadaway on board.”
Established in 1988, Ward Hadaway has enjoyed consistent and considerable growth, and is among the top-ranked law firms in the UK.
